I have always found it hard to photograph my cards as they never seem to
look as good in photos as they do in real life. Flash photography is
not compatible with bling or shiny/pearlised card and I needed to find
some other method. A search of the internet suggested the use of a small
photo studio, but the cost of buying one is quite high and the reviews
not all that good. I came across a few tutorials that suggested making
them out of a corrugated cardboard box, but that seemed a whole lot of
mucking about so I started looking around for an alternative and came up
with a plastic storage box – the kind that has semi transparent sides. I
bought two cheap desk lamps and draped some white fabric over the box
as suggested but the fabric and semi transparent box blocks too much
light. So I did away with the fabric and just use the box. You need a
backdrop in the box, so I cut a sheet of paper lengthwise to fit the
box and taped it into place.
It works well but I think I’ll get a sheet of white poster board as the paper crumples easily, especially as I store the lamps in the box.
Now the lighting was fixed, but I was still getting blurred images. Next step – cut out the camera shake. Back to the shops and I found a tiny table tripod for $15. Much better!
